EV by Lotus

Proton-owned and British-based sports car maker Lotus, has released some design sketches of an all electric mini car concept. To put things into the right perspective, it was Automotive Engineermagazine that requested the auto maker to come up some designs of such car.

However, Lotus did reveal that although it will not take up the project, a third-party auto maker may. Anyway, what Lotus has come up with is, a super mini that measures 2,600 mm long, 1,600 mm wide, 1,700 mm high and with a wheelbase of 2,000 mm. It would feature a 37kW electric motor, deriving power from a 10kW lithium-ion battery pack.

The Mini Car Concept can be recharged via a household power outlet and it would be able to deliver 50 kilometers (31 miles) in terms of driving range over a full charge. Top speed is rated at 105 km/h (65 mph).

The emissions free super mini would feature an aluminum spaceframe in the floor and the body would be pressed aluminum or composite materials. It would be able to carry four, and would feature sliding doors on each side. Doesn’t it look like a combination of the Smart Fortwo and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV?
